Working out at home versus going to a gym

Advantages to working out at home:
1-clothes don't have to be color coordinated!
2-nobody can see the faces or sounds you make!
3-nobody can judge your fitness level (so you can concentrate better)!
4-it's a whole lot cheaper!
5-you can't be jealous of others or kill yourself trying to keep up!
6-you don't have to worry about the impression you're making with any cuties at the gym!
7-if you're just starting out, the privacy will allow you to focus on you more than being distracted in a gym setting.
-Once you've made a lot of progress and feel more confident a gym is a great change of atmosphere and will likely keep you motviated to continue your efforts.
8-it's probably a lot cleaner at home than in a gym. If it's not you can work on that after your workout or better yet hire someone so you can focus on you!
9-save on makeup, perfume or cologne, etc.
10-time traveling to and from the gym giving you more time in the day, more money in your pocket with saving money on gas!

Disadvantages to not working out at home:
1-nobody to hold you accountable.
2-you don't get to interact or make new friends in your favorite class.
-If this is important the replacement is social media to post you're working out and when you're done. You're almost guaranteed to get some supporters telling you to keep up the good work and "good for you" type comments.
3-You don't get to show off your new workout clothes you bought yourself.
4-Things in your home environment can pull you away or distract you like the phone, someone at the door, etc.
5-If you're single you won't have that opportunity to meet a potential mate but really why do you want to be sweaty/stinky when you meet someone???
Whatever you decide to do working out is the greatest thing you can do for yourself. It's the one thing you do absolutely for you, your well being, health and happiness. We all need rest and recovery from our over hectic schedules. We need time away from our phones and the pace of our rat-race existence.
I like to workout first thing in the morning. It jump starts my day and if I do any other physical activity (taking the stairs, walking during lunch, etc)I've already "banked" the activity that morning so it's a bonus that keeps me gaining on my fitness goals.

I dedicate that time to just me as well. I leave my phone in another room and keep distractions at a minimum. When I'm done I might reward myself with a deep tissue massage or some other treat (not food). If I reach a goal I reward myself with something like clothes or a weekend trip, etc.

I always give myself a play day too when I've done one day of really intense exercise. The play day for me means doing an activity or exercise that I like. For example if there's favorite exercises I like to do I'll do those versus what may be next on my schedule. I might also try something new to add variety to my workout like bellydancing or going to a trail to walk just something new but still a physical activity.

I hope I've given you some ideas about fitness. I welcome your comments! More to come!

Much success,

Hello I'm Brandi. I've been in fitness since high school. I became a personal trainer and fitness instructor early on as I really wanted to help others. I taught classes in numberous gyms even though I was moving frequently with my career. I also trained on the side devoting a lot of my personal time to assisting others work out at home or in their favorite gym. I have always enjoyed watching people blossom as they achieve goals and really start feeling better.
There is no feeling like the way you feel when you are getting in shape and giving yourself that time just for you. Working out makes you have more energy, boosts your confidence and helps you enjoy your life more.......
4 years ago my mother was diagnosed with Lymphoma (stage 4). Immediately I brought her into my home so I could manage her care. I had no idea it would turn my world upside down. Before long I shut down. I wasn't social anymore and not taking care of myself while I tended to her. I saw myself packing on weight and being miserable.
Last year I finally had enough and joined TBB to help me get back on track. TBB is the perfect tool to help anyone do that. It offers so many ways to track your performance and success along with meeting other people in same pursuits to help motivate you along the way.
I'm now 25 pounds lighter and improving everyday! I just became a Coach so I can continue my passion for helping others in achieving goals whatever they might be. Whether you are in the process of reinventing yourself after a setback or break up, in need of losing some weight or interested in becoming a Coach too; I would love to help you! I can share experience, resources and lots of motivation to you in your pursuits. I'm building a solid team of committed energized individuals to help cheer each other on while on this journey.
